Attempting to create a racing-action arcade game from scratch can be tricky as it’s all probably been done before and usually better. Distance is a completely new game that borrows heavily from older arcade titles but comes in with a survival component and unique visuals.

Apparently, it’s a straight up reboot of an older independent arcade racing title with Tron-like visuals called Nutronic Rush. Other influences are there, mainly from ReVolt, one of the quintessential arcade titles of the early 2000s; another is Trackmania.

The game, while still in development, was shown at PAX Prime 2015. It’s been in development now for over a year and it’s set to launch on December 9 – it costs $20 on Steam.

Some of the features it offers include randomly generated tracks with widely varying obstacle placement possibilities, as well as a survival component.
