Following its debut in Japan in June, the facelifted Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will have its European premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Just like the regular Outlander, the 2016MY Outlander PHEV for Europe gets a new front end designed around the Dynamic Shield front fascia concept seen on recent Mitsubishi models. The model features LED DRLs housed within the LED headlight module, while the taillights include LED stop-lamps. Other styling upgrades include the exclusive bumper extensions, side garnish and other decorative parts keyed to the body color. The Outlander PHEV also sports exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone machined finish.

The facelifted Outlander PHEV also brings quality enhancements to the cabin which gets revamped seat upholstery design and materials. A new leather-wrapped four-spoke design steering wheel is offered, while the instrument cluster hood gets accent stitching. Mitsubishi says engine, tire and wind noise have been substantially reduced compared to the previous model.

The refreshed Outlander PHEV retains the Plug-in Hybrid EV system which consists of a Twin Motor 4WD drivetrain with separate motors driving the front and rear wheels, and a high-capacity battery located under the floor.

Mitsubishi says acceleration and response from a full stop in urban environments as well as on the move has been improved thanks to updates to the Plug-in Hybrid EV system. Furthermore, the optimization of the Plug-in Hybrid EV System control and reduction in engine friction have reduced CO2 emissions from 44 g/km to 42 g/km.

Another update is the V2H capability, which allows the Outlander PHEV to supplying electric power to the home when stationary from electricity stored in its drive battery.
