After its first introduction in the latest Avensis and Auris models, Toyota’s Safety Sense found its way into the smaller Aygo and Yaris city cars.

The Safety Sense package is now offered as an option for the aforementioned models, further enhancing their active and passive safety features.

On the Toyota Aygo, the Safety Sense includes a laser-controlled Pre-Collision System that warns the driver of an imminent collision, priming the brakes at the same time to deliver maximum performance as soon as the brake pedal is pressed. If the driver fails to brake after the warning, the Autonomous Emergency Braking system kicks in to reduce the vehicle’s speed by 19mph and potentially bringing the car to a full stop.

The Forward Collision Warning system works at speeds between 10 and 86 mph and when the speed difference between the two cars is greater than 10mph. The Autonomous Emergency Braking works between seven and 49mph. Also included is a lane departure warning function.

All of the above safety features are also offered on the Toyota Yaris, with the addition of the Automatic High Beam function. Toyota’s Safety Sense pack is a £375 option on all Aygo models and a £400 option for the Yaris range in the UK market.
