Caterham will launch a limited-edition Seven called Superlight Twenty as a 20th anniversary homage to the original Superlight that started production in 1996. Scheduled to debut at the Goodwood Revival this weekend, the 1.6-liter Superlight Twenty will be built in a limited run of only 20 units.

Priced at £29,995 (£26,995 as a self-assembly kit), the Caterham Seven Superlight Twenty is all about lightweight design, sporting a similarly extreme spec sheet to that of the original. It’s powered by a 135hp 1.6-liter Ford Sigma engine mated to a 6-speed close ratio gearbox and features a Sport suspension pack, lightweight flywheel and a limited slip differential.

The bodywork features a series of carbon fiber components, including its cycle wings, rear wings, nose and aero screen. Like the original Superlight, the body is finished in bare aluminum, helping shave 6 kilograms (13.2 pounds) off the car’s weight. Remarkably, the car tips the scales at just 498 kg (1,098 lbs).

Other unique details to the Superlight Twenty include a numbered dash plaque, unique gauges, key and a gear knob bearing the ‘Superlight Twenty’ motif. The limited edition model also features a titanium colored chassis, carbon interior panels and specially-embroidered carbon sports seats found only on Caterham’s flagship model, the Seven 620 R.

In tune with the minimalist approach, the list of optional extras is limited – just paint, weather equipment and a heater are available. As for performance specs, the Seven Superlight Twenty goes from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 122 mph (196 km/h).

“Those unable to buy one first time around now have the opportunity to snap up one of a limited run of vehicles – it’s not an exact replica of the original but it’s most definitely cut from the same cloth and we know customers will love it for all the same reasons,” said Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald.
