Opel may be making a fuss about their new compact Astra, but it’s their future plans that grabbed our attention today during their Frankfurt show presentation.

The German car manufacturer doesn’t want to confine only to the compact segment, but seeks a full-blown offensive on the European market, as GM CEO Mary Barra stated:

“We will speed up the model offensive at Opel/Vauxhall: From 2016 to 2020, we will launch 29 new vehicles including an electric vehicle and a second flagship alongside the Insignia. This all-new SUV will be produced in Rüsselsheim by the end of decade and will give the brand a further technological boost.”

So, there you have it; an official confirmed 29 new models as genuinely as good and honest as the Astra, including an electric vehicle and a SUV flagship.

With that in mind, Opel plans to become the second largest car maker on the European market by 2022, after securing third place on the European Union passenger car market last year.

As for the new Astra, according to Opel, the compact model made such a good first impression to consumers, that it has already registered 30,000 orders to date, prior to its official launch on October 10.
