We suspected that VW was ready to introduce their new Tiguan SUV after one of our readers caught it undisguised during a photo shoot, but now we know for sure.

VW made it official confirming the world premiere of the new Tiguan at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15, eight years after the presentation of the current, first generation model at the same event back in 2007.

Since then, VW has sold more than 2.64 million copies of the Tiguan, 1.6 million of which have rolled out of their Wolfsburg factory in Germany, with the rest being produced in China and Russia.

The 2017 Tiguan was developed from a clean sheet design with VW wrapping its fresh MQB platform underpinnings with a more serious- and upmarket-looking body. The new Tiguan will be offered solely with turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel units sourced from the Golf, with a plug-in hybrid variant to likely be added to the range as well.
