The second-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom will reportedly debut next year based on an all-new, all-aluminum modular architecture.

Developed from scratch, the new platform will underpin all future models from the noble British brand. According to Automobile, the upcoming Phantom will be the first model to use the new architecture, and the luxurious limousine will continue to offer standard- and extended-wheelbase versions.

However, the Phantom Coupe and Phantom Drophead Coupe apparently won’t have successors. The Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan will have roughly the same price, and the model will continue to be offered exclusively with the BMW-sourced V12 engine.

In terms of design, the next Phantom is expected to look more modern and more imposing thanks to a taller radiator grille and a more sculpted front end with rectangular headlamps. Other expected design changes include more striking signature C-pillars and more flowing flanks with a longer character line.

The second model to get the all-aluminum architecture will be Rolls-Royce’s SUV, knows as Project Cullinan. Scheduled to arrive in 2017, the SUV will adopt the axles, brakes and all-wheel-drive system from the upcoming BMW X7.

The same report says that the modular platform will later be used for the next-generation Ghost and possibly for a smaller model about the size of a 7-Series.
