Here’s the swan song of the world-famous Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution nameplate. Suggestively called the 2015 Lancer Evolution Final Edition, it will be available in United States in a limited run of 1,600 numbered units, each priced from $37,995 (excluding destination).

Based on the current GSR model, the Lancer Evolution Final Edition gains exterior and interior enhancements not previously offered on the GSR.

On the outside, the limited edition model gets a Final Edition badge at the rear, black painted aluminum roof, dark chrome painted Enkei alloy wheels, gloss black center bumper and hood air outlet as well as dark chrome front grille surround. Final Edition models will be offered in four colors: new Pearl White, Rally Red, Mercury Gray and Octane Blue.

In the cabin, a numbered plaque on the center console lets passengers know this is a special model, with other updates including black headliner, pillars, sun visors and assist handles, and red accent stitching for sport seats, steering wheel, shift knob, console lid, floor mats and e-brake handle.

From a technical point of view, the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Final Edition is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine rated at 303hp at 6,500 rpm and 305lb-ft (413Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. That’s 12hp and 5lb-ft more than the standard 2015 Lancer Evolution GSR but significantly below the Evo X Final Concept’s 473hp.

The engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission which sends power to all four wheels via Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel control system. Performance upgrades include lightweight two-piece Brembo brake rotors up front, as well as Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs at all four corners.

“The Final Edition model pays homage to Evo’s remarkable place in automotive history and takes it one step further as the most powerful mass-production Lancer Evolution ever built,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America executive vice president, Don Swearingen.
