As the compact segment welcomes the new Opel/Vauxhall Astra, the first reviews are landing with interesting results.

The new generation of the popular Astra hatchback is up to 200kg lighter thanks to a fresh platform, offers more room for its passengers but is more compact on the outside and has a range of competitive engines, both diesel and petrol ones.

So it’s not only significantly better than before but also wants to dethrone traditional class leaders such as the VW Golf. Far from an easy task but, on paper, the new Astra looks ready for the fight.

CarBuyer reviews the new Vauxhall Astra and their verdict is very positive indeed. Apart from some practical issues not being on the same level with some of its rivals, the Astra scored really high on pretty much every other area.
