Suzuki released a couple of images of their Mighty Deck Concept last month and aside from the obvious Mighty Boy connection, there wasn’t much that we could take away from it.

Now that the car has actually made it to Tokyo, maybe it’s time to take it a bit more seriously and focus on its practicality instead of how odd it might appear to be. Let’s start with what we know, specifically the fact that it seats two people (2+2 technically) and has an open deck, similar to the tiny Mighty Boy of the 1980s.

Unlike the Mighty Boy, the Mighty Deck (sounds like we’re talking about teenage superheroes here) has more of an urban crossover appearance, whereas the original was simply a small city car turned more utilitarian.

The loading deck could obviously come in handy like say if you want to transport maybe a mountain bike without having to remove the front wheel? Though on second thought, considering the Mighty Deck’s dimensions, the bike might actually not fit. Also, at the end of this article I’m going to have to triple check to see if I didn’t write Mighty ‘Duck’ instead of Deck at one point – at least now I got the urge out of the way.

For the sake of being more specific about its dimensions, the Mighty Deck concept measures 3,395 mm (133 in) long, 1,475 mm (58 in) wide and 1,540 mm (60 in) tall, which means that it’s even smaller than your average Opel Karl, Renault Twingo, Fiat 500 or Skoda Citigo. Even the Smart fortwo is wider and taller, though not longer.

The only thing that’s about the same size as the Mighty Deck Concept is the Citroen C-Zero…sort of. It’s still a bit longer than the Suzuki.

So yes, this concept is looking to maximize utility while keeping overall dimensions as small as possible. One might even argue that the car is too small and that we, as a society haven’t really reached the point where sneaking around through traffic in a Fiat 500 is no longer easily accomplished.
