The wait continues for the 2016 Cadillac CT6 and whether it beats the Europeans at the big luxury sedan game, but now we know it’ll be priced well below the competition.
Cadillac announced Monday the 2016 CT6 will start at $53,495 for the 2.0T model, going up to $83,465 for a CT6 Platinum with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with all-wheel drive. Even when adding the mandatory $995 destination charge, those numbers are more in line with the smaller CTS’ rivals like the BMW 5-series and Audi A6, rather than the Audi A8 or BMW 7-series.
The company says the CT6 will go into production in January and land on dealership lots sometime in March – just short of a year since it was shown at the New York Auto Show.
The CT6 will be available with the 2.0T four-cylinder with 272 horsepower, as well as the likely best-selling 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and all-wheel drive (from $55,495) and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 400 horsepower and all-wheel drive (from $64,395) – and all routed through an eight-speed automatic. A previously announced CT6 plug-in hybrid is planned for launch after the abbreviated 2016 model-year run.
While it’s Cadillac’s “range-topping sedan,” the CT6 isn’t quite as large or spacious as range-toppers from the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes. But it isn’t as expensive, either. And considering the technical showcase under the skin that keeps it light, the base 2.0T sounds like something of a bargain among luxury sedans. You will likely have to pay more, however, for some of the CT6’s other tech party pieces, such as the night vision system, 34-speaker Bose Panaray audio system and the combination rearview mirror/backup camera.
We hope to find out if it really is a bargain sometime around March.
