Bugatti confirmed that the Veyron successor will be called Chiron, with the new hypercar to make its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next March.

The new Bugatti will be named after Louis Chiron, a racing driver who won almost all the major races for the brand during the 1920s and 1930s.

“In Louis Chiron, we found a worthy patron for a new model in the history of our brand,” said Wolfgang Dürheimer, President of Bugatti. “The name of the best racing driver and the most successful Bugatti driver of his time for the best super sports car of the present day, that’s the ideal combination.”

Bugatti repeated their promise for the Chiron which is no other than to make the world’s fastest and most powerful hypercar, with more than 100 orders already placed, as the company is currently showing their new model in selected customers.

“The Chiron will set new standards in every respect”, said Dürheimer. “We will continue to produce the world’s most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive production super sports car. This is the claim of Bugatti and our customers.”

The new Bugatti Chiron is currently undergoing its final testing, with the company not being able to keep their prototypes out of sight, judging by the numerous spy shots that flooded the web. The new model will be heavily inspired by the Vision GT Concept, albeit with a much toned-down aero agenda and will use an updated version of the quad-turbo W16 8.0-litre engine, producing a rumored 1,500PS.

Whether this huge power figure will come from a new hybrid powertrain or the engine alone remains to be seen as the company still keeps their cards closed. The same rumors talk about a frankly incredible 288mph (464km/h) top speed and a 0-62mph (100km/h) time in the low-2s.
