Jenson Button Signs Up For 2015 Race Of Champions

The 2009 F1 world champion and current McLaren-Honda driver is the latest F1 driver to sign up for this year’s ROC event, set to take place later this month in London.

As a four-time ROC participant, Button will compete in the main event and team up with endurance sportscar racer Alex Buncombe, representing Great Britain in the ROC Nations Cup. Other F1 drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Felipe Massa, Romain Grosjean, Nico Hulkenberg and Susie Wolff have already signed up for this year’s event.

Button also finished runner up in the ROC Nations Cup in 2009 (definitely his most successful season professionally), which means he’ll probably be quite determined to do better this time around.

“I can’t wait to be back at the Race of Champions again – and especially to be racing at home at London’s former Olympic Stadium,” said the McLaren-Honda driver. “It is always a very special event with a good atmosphere. You’re racing against guys from your own series, plus others from all over the world. We get to meet friends old and new from the different forms of motorsport so we enjoy our time both on and off the track.”

While showing his competitive nature, Button also said that “Germany had an annoying habit of beating us at Wembley in 2007 and 2008, so it’s about time we made it all the way now we’ll be racing on the other side of London.”

This year’s German squad will feature Vettel and Hulkenberg, which should make for quite a formidable duo as long as you give them access to four wheels and a steering wheel.

As for his current job in Formula 1, Button is currently ranked 16th in the Drivers standings with 16 points, leaving him 5 points clear of his teammate Fernando Alonso and 7 points clear of Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson. It will certainly be interesting to see if he can move up in the standings, as Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz is just 2 points ahead.
