As if the HSV-branded vehicles weren’t powerful enough, GM’s Down Under division is likely planning to release the daddy of all Australian muscle cars with the GTS-R name plate.

You might remember us reporting the information, a couple of months ago as a rumor, but since then, the company apparently decided to take it a step further and, according to Car Advice, Holden registered the trademark on the vehicle (and merchandise) on December 2, 2015.

Other than that, everything remains just a wild guess, as the potential upcoming automobile is still rumored to draw power from a ZR1-sourced LS9, with bespoke components, expected to boast the Corvette’s stock power-output (638 hp and 819Nm of torque, in case you were wondering). Still, Car Advice reckons the final, real-life product is unlikely to go beyond the current LSA configuration, especially as the LSA project proved to be a nuisance for the engineers, cooling-wise.

It remains to be seen whether or not the ultimate HSV will be a limited-edition GTS with a small oomph in power, or a full-blown monster, reserved only to a handful of people. Nonetheless, the car is expected to debut in 2016 and hit the showrooms as soon as possible, given the fact it won’t have much time to stay on the shelves.

Holden last used a derivation of the moniker, on the 1996 VS GTS/R, a machine built to resemble the Holden Racing Team V8 Supercars circling Mount Panorama, powered by a 303 hp, 5.7-litre, naturally aspirated V8, limited to just 85 units.
