Next-Gen Audi Q5 Could Receive 400hp RS Model

Audi is apparently working on a high-performance RS version of the next-generation Q5 SUV, set to arrive late next year in standard guise.

The new Audi Q5 range will be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s MQB modular architecture and will also borrow a selection of suspension components from the Porsche Macan. Beyond its new platform and suspension setup, it seems likely that the next-gen Q5 will be slightly larger than the existing model but impressively, could weigh up to 100 kg or around 220 pounds less.

As for a potential Audi RS Q5 variant, German publication Autobild claims that such a model will be powered by the same turbocharged 2.5-litre 5-cylinder engine as the latest RS3 Sportback. In RS Q5 guise, that engine will reportedly be tweaked and fettled to the point where it pumps out 400 hp. Mated to that beefed-up engine will be a dual-clutch transmission driving all four wheels via Audi’s trademark quattro system.

If such a car comes to fruition, then it could prove a popular alternative to the impressive Porsche Macan Turbo while also rivalling the Mercedes-AMG GLA45.

Beyond this RS badged model, the latest Q5 will be available with a number of different engines such as a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol unit pumping out 252 hp and 273 lb-ft. Unlike the outgoing Q5, the new model won’t be available in front wheel drive with all variants coming installed with all-wheel drive as standard.
