Production Scion C-HR Rumored To Debut In Detroit

Toyota has some big plans for its future vehicle lineup and one of these includes a production version of the C-HR Concept.

Originally unveiled as a Toyota-badged design study back in 2014 at the Paris Motor Show, followed by a more production-ready concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year, the Scion-baded version was displayed at the 2015 LA Auto Show as the C-HR Concept, and is now getting ready to hit the assembly line, or at least that’s what a new report suggests.

Caranddriver says that the model will be unveiled in production trim at the 2016 NAIAS. Quoting a source close to the company, the magazine says that the C-HR will then be shown with Toyota badges in Europe and Japan.

The Scion / Toyota crossover is believed to use a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine sourced from the Japanese-market Auris, rated at 114hp (116PS) and 134lb-ft (182Nm) of torque, and a hybrid featuring the 1.8-liter unit from the Prius, producing around 120 horses. This comes as no surprise since the two will share the same platform, the TNGA (Toyota’s New Global Architecture). Power should be sent to the wheels through a CVT.

The new C-HR will compete against the Nissan Juke, Mazda CX-3 and the Honda HR-V, among others.
