Suzuki Unveils Punchy Alto Works Exclusively For Japan

Japan’s love of tiny hatchbacks is unrivaled and to help appeal to keen driving enthusiasts across the country, Suzuki has unveiled a more performance-focused variant of the Alto aptly dubbed the Alto Works.

Powering the Alto Works is a tiny 660 cc inline-three cylinder engine with a turbocharger, first utilized by the Alto Turbo RS. Whereas that model had 64 hp and 70 lb-ft of torque on tap, the Alto Works sees torque rise slightly to 74 lb-ft, with 64 horses still driving the car forwards.

While there’s no denying that those figures are small, one must remember that the Alto Works tips the scales between 670kg (1,477 lbs) and 740kg (1,631 lbs) – depending on the transmission, 5sp manual or a 5sp automated manual, and FWD or AWD configurations, and has just a 97-inch wheelbase. Despite being small than a three-door Mini Cooper, the Alto actually has five doors.

To further aid in the driving experience, the three-cylinder engine has been tuned and now has better throttle response than previously. Meanwhile, the steering has also been modified while shocks from KYB have been installed alongside 15-inch gloss black wheels.

Buyers of the tiny pocket rocket will only be able to choose between silver, white, black and red with all models including red front brake calipers and impressively, genuine Recaro racing seats. Other interior touches include a boost gauge, red stitching and steel pedals.
