Toyota Sets Out On Nation-Wide Humanitarian Missions

In an attempt to “give back”, Toyota sent out 75 Tundra trucks on their way to ‘Philabundance’, carrying no fewer than 250,000 pounds (125 tons) of food. However, the Japanese manufacturer didn’t stop there.

Philabundance is the largest hunger relief organization in the Philadelphia region, and this marks Toyota’s ninth year of “Haul Away Hunger” – their annual charitable event. Comprised of 25 dealerships in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association actually donated the money it took to purchase all that food.

Other charitable initiatives and awareness raising initiatives took place in Dallas and Los Angeles, where Toyota made their presence felt once again during this special time of the year.

In the North Dallas area, Texas-based Toyota team member volunteers set out towards Children’s Health Medical Centers, driving vehicles filled with toys. In LA, team members from Toyota’s Los Angeles Region walked not just to raise awareness but also to raise funds for childhood cancer.

“Toyota is committed to supporting the betterment of the communities it serves,” stated Alec D. Hagey, Toyota LA VP and general manager. “We’re proud to give back to our local communities and help those in need this holiday season.”

Back in January, Toyota set out to support charity projects across the UK and Africa, which involved that ‘red nose’ thing you could strap on the front of your car, preferably on the badge. All we can say is that it’s great to see car manufacturers so involved with trying to make the world a better place.

Not all changes have to be emissions-driven.
