Search For The Ultimate GT Has McLaren, Aston And Porsche Answer The Call

If your definition of a GT is an elegant yet potent car that can take you on long journeys in an effortless manner, you might be surprised by how many options you get in this category nowadays.

On this occasion, though, Drivetribe is only looking at three models, the Aston Martin DB11, the McLaren 570GT and surprisingly, the Porsche Panamera Turbo, which you know, is not a coupe but a saloon or a five-door liftback, to be precise.

Yes, you’re quite right, those are some rather interesting choices, seen as how they’re all pretty different in as many ways as they are similar. Even the Aston and the McLaren differ in somewhat significant ways.

The latter, for example, isn’t as easy to get into as the Aston, and it also isn’t front-engined, which some consider to be “a must” when categorizing a GT car.

As for the oddball choice here, Porsche’s Panamera Turbo, the way Drivetribe’s Henry Catchpole sees it, it may not be a GT car in the truest sense, but it could be the most talented car in the group. The other two are, of course, more comparable, even though the DB11 is more of a traditional GT.

So which of these three would be your car of choice for long journeys?

That 570GT just looks amazing and the profile is way better than the 570S

    • Astonman

      And that interior is drop-dead!

      • Kash

It’s a really nice minimalist interior that’s worthy of at least one award.

I don’t really enjoy DB11’s looks as much as I did DB9 (and DBS especially).

The Mclaren I want to look but the cutesy front profile really was a miss, just because it’s the baby of the Mclaren group doesn’t mean it should look it, it’s still a +500HP beast.

I think I’d have the Porsche, but the Sport Turismo Turbo. That works for me.

  • agismaniax

i think porsche panamera turbo is the best choice for long journey; proper four seater, great engine, big trunk.

  • Six Thousand Times

I think until Porsche decide to do a proper 928 redux, the Panamera is just too long. Maybe the AMG GT instead? I love GT cars a lot more than supercars.

    The McLaren for me.

NOT digging the minimalist design. Looks like an offshoot of The Drive’s website.

  • Mynameis Taylor

I like the website’s new much better to keep scrolling instead of pressing “next”

I think I’d go for the McLaren….wait. no. I meant the Porsche

The new layout has some problems in portrait mode on my iPhone. The header picture isn’t scaled properly.
Also, the top stories bar is nowhere to be found, and neither are the articles.
    Desktop looks, ok.

Sorry to hear that you have an iPhone.
