In September 2017, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio became the fastest SUV to lap the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

The high-performance model lapped the 12.9-mile (20.8 km) track in 7 minutes 51.7 seconds. The record stood for more than a year, until November 2018 when the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S posted a quicker lap of 7 minutes and 49.369 seconds.

Alfa Romeo has now moved on to set other lap records with the Stelvio Quadrifoglio and has targeted three of Britain’s most iconic racetracks.

The Italian marque’s high-performance SUV clocked inaugural lap times around Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Donington Park and British Grand Prix venue, Silverstone National Circuit.

In doing so, Alfa Romeo set the first ever SUV production car lap records around these three circuits. In the hands of professional racing driver David Brise, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio posted a 55.9s lap on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, a 1m21.1s lap at Donington Park, and a 2m31.6s lap at Silverstone.

Alfa Romeo says the SUV used for the record attempts was in stock condition, although it doesn’t offer details about the type of tires fitted to the Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

“Doing anything that is a first on track is exciting, but the Stelvio Quadrifoglio made it an even more enjoyable experience for me,” said David Brise. “The performance from this family SUV is astonishing, its handling characteristics were really confidence inspiring and totally at home on track. It gave me all the things I needed to extract the best possible lap times and establish the three records,” the driver added.

As a reminder, the hot Italian SUV features a Ferrari-built 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine that produces 510 PS (503 hp) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque. Hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the Q4 all-wheel-drive system, the six-cylinder engine enables the Stelvio Quadrifoglio to go from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds and top out at 177 mph (285 km/h).
