A 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition sold for a staggering $1.54 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Automobile Magazine reports that this is the first pre-owned Ford GT to legally cross an auction block after the two-year embargo on its sale passed. It is not the most expensive new-age GT to be sold, however. That record is held by a 2017 GT Heritage Edition that fetched $2.5 million at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction in January.

The Ford GT infamously owned by John Cena sold for $1.435 million in August 2018 although that car has a lot of controversy surrounding it as it was sold in breach of the buyer’s contract.

With a sales price of $1.54 million, the Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition in question sold for roughly three times what the original purchaser would have paid, delivering a $1 million profit in just two years before auction fees and capital gains taxes. Not bad when you consider Ford famously upped production of the new GT to 1,350 units across a six-year production run rather than the 500 units and two-year production run that it initially planned, inevitably hurting the value of the mid-engined supercar built by Multimatic in Canada.

Last month, we wrote about a lime green 2017 Ford GT up for sale for a cool $1.3 million, stunned by the asking price. Later this month, a Ford GT will be auctioned off with funds raised to benefit the Peterson Automotive Museum.
