The 2017 Ford GT once owned by John Cena is heading to auction yet again thanks to Mecum Auctions.

We most recently heard about Cena’s GT back in March when the same auction house announced it would be selling the car at its Indianapolis sales event in May. However, a couple of months before the event, a spokesperson confirmed that the consignment had been removed. If Cena’s GT were to have been sold in May, it would have found its fifth owner in a touch over 18 months.

Fast forward to December 2019, and a listing on the Mecum Auctions Kissimmee auction taking place between January 2-12 lists the supercar as a ‘Main Attraction’ of the event.

In January 2019, Mecum Auctions reached a settlement with Ford that would prevent it from selling any GTs within the first two years of their existence. As Cena took delivery of his car on September 23, 2017, it was understood that this settlement was the reason why the supercar was pulled from the May auction as two years had yet to pass. If true, it would seem apparent that Mecum Auctions have held on to the car for the past nine months or so waiting for the moment it could sell it. We have reached out to the auction house to see if this is the case.

Everyone ordering a new Ford GT was required to sign an agreement that they would not sell the car within the first two years of their ownership. Cena infamously broke this agreement when he sold his GT less than one month after taking delivery. It was purchased by a 78-year-old Californian farmer who held on to it for eight months before selling it during a Russo and Steele auction in August 2018 for $1.54 million. Two months later, it was sold yet again, this time for $1.32 million.
