Insider: Toyota to Bring Subaru Co-developed RWD Coupe as a Scion TC in 2011

|
Rumors that Toyota will market its Subaru co-developed rear-wheel-drive coupe as a Scion in America have been swirling around the net ever since the two Japanese automakers made their plans official this spring. But now we've received word that it's true. According to our inside source, Toyota officials in the U.S. confirmed that the affordable RWD coupe will indeed arrive in the States in late-2010 / early-2011 as the new Scion TC. Further details weren't provided but from what we know up until now, both the Toyota / Scion and Subaru variants of the two-seater compact coupe will get an all-new platform with power coming from a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine producing around 200HP.

Toyota officials also told our source that the iQ minicar will be heading to the States as the latest addition to the Scion line-up. Even though it is apparent that the iQ and the RWD TC will target a different segment of the young or young-at-heart audience, company officials are certain that both vehicles will do their part to spice-up the Scion brand's youthful / hip image.

Thanks for the heads-up. It was working fine on Firefox, but apparently not on Explorer. We reposted it and voila.

Make the iQ the new xA,and full course ahead for the RWD/4WD Optional? tC,but cut the Hako concept face and paste on the front from the Fuse concept of '06

wow i was going to buy this until i found out its going to be the next tc ...what a waste of a nice car ...sad a name can ruin a sale...

What do u drive? lmao, u probably don't even own a car and borrow ur mom's volvo! He he he... Watch how he'll claim to have an Evo, STi or SRT 4... Typical posser! And for the record, a RWD tC that has good chances to come turbocharged with 200bhp from factory would become as iconic as a 240SX and would be hard competition to the RSX, Si, Cobalt SS, MK5, Mazdaspeed MX5 and a lot other tunners... get ur facts straight before making a dumb comment! RWD tC will own!

Anonymous said... »November 15, 2008

Lmao^^ How ignorant of a comment to say that you won't buy it because it's a tC! YOU obviously don' know anything about true sport compacts or their origins. You might be stupid enough to say that an ae86 is a P.O.S. Go look up the R*SR drift tc and tell me that it sucks because it's a scion!

Ignorance...priceless =]

So what if it will be branded as the next Tc? The car is the potential successor to the Hachi-Roku.

side note: Darkevildrifter= EPIC FAILURE!!!!

Hopefully the new TC will have a version that properly uses the acronym it symbolizes TURBO CHARGED package :)

English 101 said... »November 18, 2008

You know Turbo and SC will be on there. It will it will. The next 86 is here. Thy name is TC

Anonymous said... »November 21, 2008

toyota rwd is back
yeah!!

Anonymous said... »November 26, 2008

TC was never meant to refer to "turbo charged" it was labeled TC as a note of succession being the replacement for the Toyota Celica.

Anonymous said... »December 01, 2008

Actually tC is for touring coupe. They chose tC because volvo already had the rights to xC which is what they originally wanted to brand it as.

Anonymous said... »January 26, 2009

they should not wait until 2011 to sell the tc because then people will find a diffrent car to replaec the tc cus the have to wait to long

and i wont the tc NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said... »May 09, 2009

I am a Toyota/Scion dealer and I can tell you that TC stands for Touring Coup. Also for you idiots that may have an expination for the xb and the xd. They mean nothing. Another thing, I believe that we will not be able to keep the new Scion tc's (when they hit the dealerships)on the lot long enough to show. I also believe that they will be a hot seller do the fact that you have the ability to customise the car before you even leave the lot. With an endless amount of options, who wouldn't want to buy one? Your an idiot if you believe otherwise. Besides you save $$$$$.

my question is that, that boxer engine comes from toyota? cuz subaru is the one using that kind of engine!, and if not, they just killed it... ur not driving a toyota!! which it motors has a strogly and outstanding performance u can unleash when it comes to upgrades. think about the 2.4L engines reaching 7secs 1/4 mile records and the durability of those engines...... will u change the 1st gen scion tc 4 the next gen one?.... i wont change mine until i see toyota name on its motor. thats how much i trust toyota......
