Even though the dust has yet to settle from the presentation of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray and we won't be seeing the car in showrooms until the end of summer the earliest, some fans of the series have been complaining about the switch from circle to the more Camaro-esque square taillights.
While it's true that the C2, C3, C5 and C6 did indeed have round or oval rear lights, it wasn't always like that as the C4 came with four square-shaped tail lamps and the first Corvette had single lights from 1951 to 1960, with the four-light treatment appearing on the 1961 and 1962 models of the C1 lineup.
We don't know how much truth there is in this digital pamphlet said to be distributed by CorvetteItalia, but it does show what the C7 could look like with the C6's more retro, round units.
According to leaflet, the website will supposedly offer a kit containing a fiberglass rear end, C6 tail-lights, wirings and bulbs and tools and diagrams at a cost of $2,800 with free shipping starting from next year.
Whether it's real, a forum hoax or wishful thinking from someone testing the waters remains unknown, at least for now.

Considerably better
So out of place...
Isn't there brake ducting that exhaust via the rear facia near the new taillights? Where is it here?
I agree, I do like those very much, but where will the air from side vents exit through?
I prefer the new ones. They look like c6's
and now it looks like a corvette and not a camaro
The round lamps do look better as they've become a characteristic trait of Corvettes - like Ferrari rounds. This kit may have a big problem however, the rear vents next to the tail lamps on the 2014 C7 are indeed active to aide in cooling the vehicle. In the attached image I see that area is sealed and with no visible area to vent the heat. I hope such a kit becomes available that does not compromise the vehicle.
The whole back end is clunky. Scrapping the Camaro taillights hardly solves the problem.
Its time for a change and the square tail lamps look great on the C7. It doesn't look exactly like the camaro's tail lamps.
Actually I was getting tired of the circular ones.
Much better. That's what a Corvette is supposed to look like at the rear.
At first I didn't like the taillights, but they're growing on me. This mod does look good, but a little dated, tired of the round design which goes back to the early 90s on this design and further than that for the Corvette in general
Looks so much better, accurate - these guys only need to rework the missing vents (I don't like them, but important for proper cooling or aerodynamic purpose)...
I agree, but actually have nothing against rectangular tail-lights when they only weren't imitating the Camaros rear-end - that's a big failure... (digital Instrument cluster beside too :-)
"...it wasn't always like that as the C4 came with four square-shaped tail lamps..."
The C4 originally came with four round tail lamps.
The entire design is dull - in dim light you can barely tell this car from last years -- totally derivative, unimaginative design. Major wasted opportunity.
Ummm...Wow, I kinda, I agree with you.
The round ones look ok but I prefer the "square" ones. I don't know what it is, the round ones just don't look like they belong there. But, if someone like them, at least they're available for them.
I for one hate the lights. I saw a new Malibu today and the lights look just like the C7's at night
