Perhaps ten or twenty years ago, a small hot hatch with 133PS (131bhp) under its hood would have made for a very interesting proposition, but nowadays, with safety and luxury appointments having added plenty of pounds to the mix, and many car makers having boosted their small displacement engines, Renault’s Twingo RS 133 is much less relevant.

But if you insist on RenaultSport’s hatch and are willing to give tuners a chance, UK-based Renault specialist K-Tec Racing has come out with a package promising to add some feistiness to the three-door model.

The kit combines a high performance tubular exhaust manifold and system, Cat Cams Stage 1 cams and a newly developed ECU remap that all do their part to lift output from stock 131 bhp at 6,500 rpm to 163 bhp at just over 7,000 rpm, and peak torque from 120 lb.ft (160 Nm) at 3,500 rpm to 142 lb.ft (192 Nm) at 4,250 rpm.

K-Tec Racing says that while it doesn’t have performance road testing figures in its hands yet, it believes that the tuned Twingo can better the standard 133’s 8.7 seconds 0-60mph (96km/h) dash and 125 mph (201km/h) maximum speed.

The cost of the entire tune including parts, ECU mapping and labour, which is covered by a 12 month warranty, stands at £2625.60 with VAT.
