Ferrari doesn’t have to be the only supercar maker to have a “Speciale” version of its current bread and butter supercar, because McLaren can have one too. After what to us seems like a few seconds after having been revealed, we already learn of the possibility that the 650S could gain a more track-focused version very early on.
The car currently makes 641 hp from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, but AutoExpress says it has information that a 727 hp version is in the works, one without a “torque-filling” electric motor, which apparently could spell turbo lag for the 650S Speciale.
It will be a limited appeal model, as studies from within the company reportedly show that around 12 percent of buyers take their McLaren to the track.
The track-honed 650S is reportedly going to be detailed later this year and it’s expected to carry a £25,000 or ~€30,000/$41,600 premium over the regular one. The same insider-based report also hints at a similar version of the future baby model of the range, the car now only known as P13.
