Even though on paper, BMW’s M4 is approximately 40 percent more powerful, for most driving enthusiasts, the 435i will do just fine.

If you want some more oomph from the stock 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six that’s rated at 306PS (302hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) of peak torque, the answer is pretty simple and fairly inexpensive: an ECU upgrade like the one offered by Germany firm Best-Tuning, which costs €1,299 ($1,745) and lifts output to 365PS (360hp).

The aftermarket tuner can also give the 435i and 435i xDrive an extra boost through a sports exhaust system, which is not present on the display car.

For the 435i xDrive specifically, Best-Tuning has a package that adds KW coilovers starting at €1,100 ($1,477) and a new set of 20-inch Schmidt Revolution alloy wheels wrapped in tires size 235/20 at the front and 275/25, with pricing starting from €2,600 ($3,490), depending on the brand of rubber.
