Scoop: Looks Like Ford Is Out Testing 2017 Fiesta RS

This test-mule that we spied in Europe could be the first real evidence that Ford is indeed developing an RS version of its Fiesta subcompact.

The black Fiesta was testing alongside two, still camouflaged, Focus RS prototypes. It featured wider tracks under the extended front wheel arches, a modified rear bumper, and what appear to be additional cooling components behind the provisional grille, all of which point to a sportier version of the supermini.

While officials from the Blue Oval’s newly established Ford Performance arm have pledged to launch 12 hot Ford models by 2020, the only ones they’ve confirmed up until now – aside from the Focus RS and GT, are special versions of the Mustang and F-150.

However, Ford Performance manager Tyrone Johnson recently told a number of UK magazines that there will be a faster Fiesta based on the existing chassis.

The last time Ford toyed around with the idea of a Fiesta RS was back in 2004 with a concept of the previous generation model, but it never came into fruition.

A high-po edition of the current Fiesta with the RS moniker could get a 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost with well over 220hp, and possibly borrow the Focus’ new all-wheel drive system, though, none of this has been confirmed yet.
