Rare Ferrari 400 Superamerica Aerodinamico Crossing Auction Block

On February 3, RM Sotheby’s will host its Paris auctions and one of the highlights will be a 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica LWB Coupe Aerodinamico by Pininfarina.

At the time of its introduction at the Turin Motor Show in 1959, the 400 Superamerica was the firm’s fastest grand tourer thanks to its 4.0-liter V12 mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

Given the success of the original convertible, it was almost certain that a hardtop coupe model would follow. Indeed, in 1960 Ferrari rolled out the Aerodinamico coupe, eventually offered in long-wheelbase guise, like this car.

Even so, it was a very limited production run with just 18 units manufactured. This car is chassis number 3931 SA and maintains its original silver exterior paint finish and black interior.

Its first owner was in New York, but in the early 1980s it was purchased by a collector in Tokyo. Since then, it’s spent time both in the United States and Europe.

Pre-auction estimates suggest the car could sell for $3.6 million. Quite a hefty price, but on the other hand it’s a very rare piece of classic Maranello exotica and that’s to be expected.
