Mercedes just applied the “Maybach treatment” on its executive model, the E-Class, launching the extended wheel base variant exclusively for China at the Beijing Motor Show.

The luxurious limousine was purposely-developed for the Chinese market – so don’t expect to see it anywhere else – and Mercedes says it comes with numerous technical innovations. Its standout feature, of course, is a more spacious rear compartment, providing an additional 134 mm of legroom, thanks to its extra 140 mm (5.5 inches)-stretched wheelbase.

The figures add up to a total length of 5,063mm (199.3 inches), making the E C-Class L almost as long as the flagship S-Class (5,116mm / 201.4 in). The car will be available with two distinct design “characters”, a saloon and a sports saloon – borrowing the same classic or sporty grille style from the standard variant.

Furthermore, “L” isn’t just a stretched E-Class, as the German car manufacturer implemented the same aesthetic solution found on the Maybach. That translates into a triangular window embedded into the C-pillar and an elongated roofline, thus keeping its harmonious proportions that give it a dynamic and elegant appearance.

Even though the E-Class L gets the same comfort and safety amenities as the regular wheelbase E-Class, the vehicle’s interior has slightly been revamped to emphasize its newly acquired luxurious characteristics.
