• The Tipo 829 has a 3.2-liter V6 with 500 hp and all-wheel drive.
  • Angelelli Automobili has previewed the Tipo 829 in Strada, Terra, and Pista forms.
  • The car has a traditional low-slung, mid-engined supercar shape.

There’s no shortage of exclusive, high-end exotics on the market. In fact, we’d argue that perhaps there are a few too many. Now, there may be another on the way. After teasing us with the 300-mph Superpeformante D-One hypercar back in 2022, Italian firm Angelelli Automobili is now showing off its new Tipo 829. Previewed in three configurations, the Pista, Terra, and Strada, the Tipo 829 could fill a space in the market largely abandoned by the supercar establishment.

It’s important to point out that Angelelli Automobili has so far only released a few poor-quality renderings of the Tipo 829 and has only released some specifications. As we’ve learned over the years, dreaming up and designing a new supercar is a lot easier than actually developing and producing one at scale. Unless Angelelli has the funds to make a car like this a reality, it could end up being nothing more than vaporware.

The car is named after the legendary Lancia Stratos, which was known internally as the Tipo 829. There’s no word on whether this new Tipo 829 is built around a bespoke platform, or perhaps uses the architecture of any existing car, but it’s been conceived to use a 3.2-liter V6 with 500 hp. All-wheel drive will come standard.

Visually, all three versions share the same basic shape. The front sits low with a pronounced splitter, an LED light bar, and a vertical LED light.  Angelelli Automobili has pushed the windshield forward so it sits in line with the front axle, which should make the Tipo 829’s cabin feel quite spacious, despite the car’s small footprint.

Of the three models envisioned, the Pista is the most extreme. Showcased with a flamboyant white, green, and red Alitalia livery, it’s designed to perform best at the racetrack. It includes a new splitter, canards, and a bespoke hood and front quarter panels with aerodynamic louvers. It also sports new side skirts and a large fixed rear wing. There’s no word on whether the Pista will benefit from any mechanical modifications.

The second version previewed by the small Italian firm is the Terra. It could be compared to something like the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, focusing on mixed-surface driving to perform well in rallies and at hill climb events. In these images, it sits just as low as the Pista, but Angelelli says the chassis will be set up for uneven surfaces, offering more suspension travel and a higher ride height. Rounding out the trio is the Tipo 829 Strada, focused on on-road performance.
