The scandal involving the Japanese automaker’s manipulation of fuel economy data is likely to cause both the company’s CEO and COO to resign, according to Japanese media.

Chairman and CEO Osamu Masuko has allegedly already told a few affiliated dealers and parts makers that he intends to step down, while another news outlet is now saying that President and COO Tetsuro Aikawa will soon join him.

Mitsubishi, Japan’s sixth-largest automaker, came clean about using fuel economy testing methods that did not comply with Japanese regulations for the past 25 years. An external committee was also established in order to investigate the matter and report the results, after a manipulation was first found on four models last Wednesday.

As reported by Reuters, both Masuko as well as Aikawa are expected to resign after the committee reports the final results, according to local newspapers.

Right now, not only has the company’s market value been cut in half, but no Mitsubishi Motors spokesman was available for comment.
