Back in 1966, Ford ran two very successful French campaigns, winning at Le Mans with the GT40, but also in the Tour de France as the official support vehicle of the Ford-France-Hutchinson cycle team.

With this year’s Tour de France getting under way on Saturday, Ford is hoping for another repeat performance. They already won their category at Le Mans with the all-new GT and now they’ll be running a whole bunch of supporting vehicles as Team Sky’s new and exclusive supplier.

The event will cover 21 stages and 3,519 km (2,186 miles), as blue and black liveried Ford Mondeo Wagons will be there offering their assistance. Also supporting will be the Mustang, Edge, S-Max, Kuga and Transit vans.

Team Sky has been using Ford’s newest models to support its racing program since the beginning of the year, and they already won the Tour de France three times in the past four years (2012, 2013, 2015) thanks to Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins.

In the UK, Ford is also announcing their partnership with Women’s Elite National circuit champ Nikki Juniper – thus creating a brand new cycling team consisting of 11 senior and development riders. The 2016 British Cycling Women’s Road Series is supported by EcoBoost petrol engine-powered EcoSport and Mondeo Vignale cars, as well as the Transit Custom van.
