McLaren is bringing an array of its most hardcore supercars to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. But the racing team turned exotic automaker won’t just bring any random example of the P1 GTR… it will bring two, and each of them brings with it something new.

Most intriguing is the street-legal version that will make a run for the record up the hillclimb route. Previously confined strictly to the racetrack, the P1 GTR has now been modified for use on public roadways by Lanzante Ltd – the same outfit that ran the F1 GTR to victory at Le Mans in ’95.

The street-legal McLaren P1 GTR is said to look mostly the same as the existing track model, but with a series of modifications to comply with regulations. This prototype will be driven by former Indy 500 winner Kenny Bräck in an attempt to take the record for the fastest road car to run up Lord March’s lawn. Once the modification program is complete, all 35 owners of the track special will be able to have theirs retrofitted for road use.

Alongside the street-modified example, McLaren will also bring another P1 GTR with a special livery inspired by the helmet design of former world champion James Hunt. Marking 40 years since Hunt beat Niki Lauda to the title by a single championship point, this special P1 is decked out in black with red, yellow and blue stripes, and will be driven by factory driver Bruno Senna. We’re looking forward to seeing both make their debuts later this month at the Goodwood estate for this year’s Festival.
