Polestar has a proven track record of making Volvos perform better, but this latest range of performance enhancements the most powerful Volvo yet.

The upgrades are designed specifically the flagship XC90 T8 Twin Engine, and increase output from 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque to 421 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. That’s rather remarkable when you consider that it’s all coming from a tiny 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine – albeit turbocharged, supercharged, with direct injection, and boosted by an electric motor. The result is a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) of 5.5 seconds, without hampering the plug-in hybrid’s economy.

Volvo’s in-house tuning department also promises better response from the throttle and transmission as part of the package, making the hybrid crossover feel faster as well as go faster. As a result of the enhancements, it will hold a lower gear in the corner, keeping it tight and preventing a mid-corner shift that could unsettle the vehicle’s handling.

The enhancements are available immediately, and we suspect it won’t be long before they’re made available on the lighter S90 sedan and V90 wagon as well.
