Australian law-makers, authorities and the national media are outraged following the local launch of the highly-praised Ford Focus RS.

So-called safety experts have pinpointed the vehicle’s ‘Drift Mode‘ as being dangerous and completely unnecessary on a road car saying that there’s nothing stopping owners from using this feature to perform the perfect four-wheeled drift.

This has lead the head of the Pedestrian Council of Australia to urge Ford to recall the model and disable the Drift Mode. However, Ford is resistant to do so saying that a disclaimer appears on the dashboard when Drift Mode is used saying that it is only appropriate for use on racetracks.

What these ‘safety experts’ fail to recognize however is that the Drift Mode actually makes drifting safer, so simple that even your mom could do it. Also, its worth noting that almost all modern cars have a button to turn off traction control, making rear-wheel drive vehicles even easier to slide than the Focus RS but without the aid of an advanced all-wheel drive system or torque vectoring.

‘Anti-hoon’ laws in Australia are so strict that when local sales of the Ford Mustang commenced, the American marque was forced to disable the line-lock burnout mode.
