Remember that video of a young skateboarder smashing a McLaren 12C’s windshield? Well as it turns out, it was all a sly publicity stunt.

A reporter working for 9 News in Colorado suspected that something was going on behind the clip and decided to investigate it further.

Almost immediately, it was discovered that the uploader of the video was a manager for a local supercar hire company in Denver that stocks the 12C in question. It was then discovered that no police report had been filed over the incident, even though the video showed the seemingly infuriated passenger jumping out of the car and chasing after the skateboarder.

Things then get even more interesting as previously-unseen footage of the incident shows the skateboarder waiting just around the corner, potentially for a signal that the McLaren was about to reach the zebra crossing. He can then be seen abruptly skating across the intersection at the exact moment the 12C approaches.

The reporter goes on to suggest that the whole thing could have been staged to make some money for those involved. At the time of writing, the video has over 9 million views, equating to thousands of dollars in advertising revenue.

Just a windshield? Seriously? If you want to do a scam you might as well do something big, like driving a Veyron into a lake, for example.
