Next-Generation Audi A6 To Introduce Bold New Design Language

Next year, a slew of new Audi models will bring Marc Lichte’s updated design language to the market with the 2017 A6 set to solidify the new age of Audi styling.

Initially, the new look will be introduced by the next-generation A8 and then followed up closely by the new A7, set to adopt a sportier and more overt exterior presence. The new A6 will then follow suit towards the end of the year and throw a spanner into the d-segment of the market, with much more outlandish styling than its rivals.

Autocar reports that the Prologue Concept introduced in 2014 was designed by Lichte to reflect and preview the designs of the aforementioned models which had already been finalised. Key to the new language are the three pillars of all being sophisticated, sporting and progressive.

For the A6, this will translate into aggressively pointed and tapered headlights as well as the new hexagonal single-frame grille previewed by the Prologue. We can also expect to see a contoured bonnet and powerfully-shaped side lines.

Beyond its design, the new Audi A6 will be based around Volkswagen’s MLB platform built from a combination of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, high-strength steel and aluminum. This will ensure that all new A6 derivatives weigh significantly less than the outgoing models.

In terms of powertrains, they’ll be numerous petrol and diesel four-cylinder units for entry-level models as well as a petrol 3.0-liter V6 and 4.0-liter V8 for high-spec luxury and performance-oriented models.
