The revolutionary Aston Martin AM-RB 001 looks set to utilize a semi-active suspension system when it hits the market in 2018 reports Autocar.

Job vacancies posted by Red Bull Advanced Technologies reveal that the company is looking for a host of experienced engineers for the project, including ones with experience in semi-active suspension systems.

Such systems aren’t new on production cars with McLaren for example, using fully active electronically-controlled suspension setups on all of its production cars (excluding the Sports Series). Where semi-active systems differ is that they use more traditional dampers that can be electronically adjusted to suit different road surfaces.

That’s nothing revolutionary then. However, the fact that Red Bull design boss Adrian Newey is behind the AM-RB 001 gives hope that we could see semi-active suspension like we have never seen before.

Newey infamously pioneered the technology in Formula 1 with the Williams FW14B, a car so potent that it left competitors for dead during cornering. As Aston Martin hopes its breakthrough hypercar will be as fast as an F1 car around a circuit yet capable of being driven on the streets, something very, very special can be expected.

Beyond its suspension setup, it has already been confirmed that the AM-RB 001, also known as the ‘Nebula’, will have a high-revving V12 possibly aided by some form of electrification. Upwards of 1000 hp is being targeted alongside a 1,000 kg weight figure.
