First held 110 years ago, the legendary Targa Florio through the scenic roads of Sicily was one of the most recognizable road races ever.

While the route of the Targa Floria frequently changed, some stretches of tarmac were used more often than not, especially a certain 72 km circuit. Consisting of almost 900 curves, bends and twists, the circuit is the perfect place to test out the abilities of any sports car, particularly the brand new Porsche 718 Cayman.

The German marque recently took a Miami Blue Cayman S to the route of the Targa Floria, tracing the company’s history at the event where the original Porsche 718 once competed, winning on three occasions.

That car was mid-engined just like the new model and was also driven by a four-cylinder engine, albeit of just 1.5-liters. Its 148 hp was impressive for the day but is nothing compared to its modern successor, delivering 350 hp in Cayman S guise thanks to a turbocharger and an extra 1.0-liters in displacement.

On roads like this in an area as beautiful as Sicily, it’s hard to imagine a car more appropriate for the roads than the Cayman S.
