Mazda3 Recalled For Fuel Leaks In Two Separate Campaigns

Mazda has issued two recalls, both of them for the Mazda3 and both concerning potential fuel leaks.

The larger of the two covers 2014-2016 models manufactured between January 4, 2014, and September 15, 2015. An estimated 17,484 units in the United States may have improperly welded Inlet Check Valves, which could allow fuel to leak, and potentially cause a fire.

The smaller campaign affects only 3,849 examples of the 2016 Mazda3 built between September 24 and October 16, 2015. In this case, it’s the welded connection of the recirculation pipe that could spring a leak.

Both cases result from manufacturing defects, and will be remedied by dealers inspecting and potentially replacing the fuel tanks entirely. Both recall campaigns are slated to kick off on November 1.
