Audi S8 Plus Storms To 100 km/h In Ballistic 3.4 Seconds

We live in a world where impending hybrid hypercars are promising Formula One levels of speed and luxurυ sedans are more accelerative than supercars from a few years ago. Case in point, the Audi S8 Plus.

While it may not have Audi Sport’s RS badge, the S8 Plus is seriously quick. Just how quick? Well the manufacturer says it’ll sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, yet one YouTuber recently recorded a verified 3.4 second sprint in one.

The key contributor in such neck-snapping speeds is the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine of the S8 Plus. It pumps out an insane 605 PS (597 hp) and is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the rear wheels.

As with other Audis, the S8 Plus also has a rather potent launch control system which forces the super-sedan into a squat before it launches forward at the same rate as a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. This is despite the fact that it weighs the better part of 1,945 kg (4,288 pounds).

Who ever said luxo bargers can’t be fun?

  • Not a fan of The Rings but… dammit, that’s insane. Hats off!

    8 speed torque-converter ZF 8-speed. Not dual-clutch.

  • Six_Tymes

impressive. what year is that S8? It would be cool seeing this drag a p100D in a half mile

ever since the released the 4.0 TT I always said that engine should have been in the R8

  • SteersUright

Impressive. Just be sure to slow back down to 15mph for that first corner.

  • Sébastien

    What are they calling “verified”?
Taking a lap time with gps based box while there’s some clouds… I’d still trust a manufacturer number for once.

    P100D – 0-60 2.5 Seconds – Weight: 5,000 pounds – Uses no gas

    S8 – 0-60 3.4 seconds – Weight: 4,300 pounds – Burns tons of gas

Failing to see how this is impressive

    • RingZ

Don’t hate. It’s a gas burner eater & super impressive if it’s that close to an electric motor.

    • Vassilis

0-62 in 3.4 for the S8. 60-62 usually take 0.3 to 0.4 sec. Of course it’s still slower than the Tesla but we all know how that car’s acceleration decreases after a certain moment. Anyway, they may both be expensive sedans but the S8 appeals to a different group of buyers. I’d have that one.

    • Silimarina

It is impressive, taking in consideration that S8 has 600 hp and lower torque that is not available from 0 rpms like P100D

    • TheHake

But 3 coal burning power plants are needed to charge that Tesla’s batteries, not to mention the environmental impact of producing the batteries themselves. Tesla fanbois should start realizing that Teslas doesn’t require 0 produced energy to do 0-60 in 2.5s. PLUS, after half a lap that Tesla goes into Limp mode because the batteries are overheating.

  • John

There is no launch control on an s8
It’s Quattro so awd not rear wheel drive
It doesn’t have dual clutch gearbox.

How can you make so many errors in such a short article.
