M-Sport has just unveiled its 2017 Ford Fiesta WRC racer that’s based on the just-revealed road-going 2017 Fiesta.

As with all other entrants for the 2017 World Rally Championship, M-Sport’s new rally car will be significantly faster than the outgoing model thanks to the sport’s dramatic regulation changes.

Beneath the skin, the model is powered by an EcoBoost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 380 hp and 450 Nm of torque. This potent engine is then mated to a new six-speed sequential transmission with hydraulic shift runs, a multi-disc clutch and an active center differential.

Additionally, the new M-Sport Fiesta WRC includes redesigned struts that are fully adjustable in bump and rebound as well as improved ventilated disc brakes with four-piston monoblock calipers.

Speaking about the car, M-Sport managing director Malcom Wilson said “Having driven the car myself, I can honestly say that it is one of the most impressive we have ever produced. It’s exciting to drive, it sounds fantastic and it looks absolutely sensational.

“Every team is starting on an equal footing and I’m confident that we have produced another car which is capable of challenging – and winning – at the very highest level. More than 95 percent has been designed from scratch and our team has had whatever they’ve wanted to build the best possible car. No expense has been spared, and we start the 2017 season with one goal in mind – returning to the top step of the podium,” Wilson said.
