After polling its team of editors and analysts, HPI has revealed a Top 13 list of cars with some pretty creepy, or at least mildly sinister or intrusive names.

Now, most of these monikers have long ceased to exist, but some, such as those from Rolls-Royce, are still being used today, making the automaker’s cars sound very imposing, mirroring the way they look. We are of course referring to the Phantom and the Wraith.

According to HPI, this is what a scary car name top 13 list would look like:

1. Rolls-Royce Phantom
2. AMC Gremlin
3. Pontiac Banshee
4. Hillman Imp
5. Lamborghini Diablo
6. Alfa Romeo Spider
7. Plymouth Prowler
8. Ford Probe
9. Spectre R42
10. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
11. Rolls-Royce Wraith
12. DF Goblin
13. Lamborghini Murcielago (Spanish for “Bat”)

While we wouldn’t necessarily place them in that order, the list is certainly thorough. Also, getting the Banshee, Imp and Prowler in there is pretty clever, but if you want scary, we would argue that the Hellcat and Wraith should have been higher up in the list.

“The cap hpi team has compiled some outlandish and terrifyingly named vehicles ranging from obscure concept cars, supercars and high-value models to more mainstream cars,” stated HPI exec Fernando Garcia. “Whether attempting to sound genuinely scary or to simply stand out from the crowd, car manufacturers have a long history of coming up with car names that sound dark and frightening. There also a tendency for manufacturers to name cars after animals and these are generally based on fearsome predators.”
