Damn…Stock Corvette Z06 C6 Doesn’t Even Break A Sweat Against Charger Hellcat

With the Dodge Challenger Hellcat being the star of so many drag racing clips, it almost seemed like people forgot about the equally powerful Charger.

What we have here isn’t a proper 1/4 mile run but it doesn’t really matter. There was still plenty of room for the cars to get separation and sometimes that’s all you need in order to call it a drag race.

In one corner you have the beastly 707 HP Charger with its 6.2 liter supercharged HEMI V8. This engine also produces 880 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque so a rolling start is really up its alley.

The Hellcat can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and keep going until it hits 328 km/h (204 mph) – it can also cover the 1/4 mile in about 11 seconds in case you were wondering.

As for the previous generation C6 Corvette Z06, it’s still a heck of a brawler and not to be taken lightly, regardless of what opponent it faces. Unless it’s a LaFerrari or something crazy like that.

Anyway, the old Z06 could cover ground as well as anybody else back in the day. It had a monster 7.0 liter V8 engine, producing 505 HP, helping it reach a top speed of 318 km/h (198 mph). The C6 Z06 could also cover a 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds, which is fairly similar to what the Charger Hellcat can do.

So what happens when these two go head to head? Well, (lack of) weight wins, as always!

  • BlackPegasus

Yep, looks like the weight was a factor here..

    • Andrewthecarguy

Must be…cause 202 hp deficit should NOT produce that result.

      • Douglas Hamner

Looks more to be Aerodynamics than power to weight. Also he could have screwed up a track app setting if he was not using the Red Key.

You also don’t get the full 707hp until 1,000 miles on the odo.

        • Tomaz Hilton

Thats the thing, You DONT use Track App setting in the Hellcat… its Tuned for the Race Track not Drag Strip. Cars.com Achieved a 11.03 1/4 Mile. The only mag to do it right.

    • Wolfgang Bergstrom

yes weight is a big factor the z06 has a 1400ish lb advantage at 3146 lb to the hellcats 4500ish lbs

  • z06 manual hellcat auto?

    • Gareth Siew

Yup, z06 C6 only in manual. Charger Hellcat in auto

  • Akira

When will people finally understand that the hellcats are proper muscle cars… which mean they are idiotic machines that can’t put their power to the ground.

    • KG

Idiotic – that is your opinion. You cleary don’t get what a muscle car is all about.

      • Stephen Baxter

        This doesn’t make sense.
Someone having a critical opinion of something, is not the same as them not understanding it.

And if were being honest about our passions. Overpowered chassis that spin tires in multiple gears with a bunch of noise and smoke is kind of stupid. Stupid fun? Most certainly. Stupid awesome? Yes, but Stupid, especially when you think of F1, LM, and BAC Monos.
With that said, i want a hellcat to get stupid in right now 🙂

  • bonzomatic

I have to think that aerodynamics comes into play a lot too.

  • JZcarguy

“Doesn’t even break a sweat?” The Z06 was behind for half of the race and it was a virtual tie… Not saying it isn’t impressive, but a very misleading title.

  • KG

Wow. a Vette beat a sedan. I should hope so.

  • dodge

A 4 door sedan. The vett is a sports car two seats not 5. $51,000.00 sedan vet $107,000.00

    • Alex Johnson

It’s a Z06, not ZR1. Even the 2015 Z06 costs under $100,000. However, I agree this test compared an apple to an orange. The C6.R is a race car based on the C6 coupe and the Z06 is a production car based on the C6.R. The Charger STR Hellcat is based on the 392.

    • NY Plantings

Yeah johnson is correct i paid about 30k for my used c6Z, then put another 15k into it with a supercharger…for 45k i own it and have a truly fast car with almost 700rwhp mild tune daily driver.
That said the hellcat is certainly the best car for everyday use.
Wish it wasnt so but it is.

  • C6Roadster .

Wow a much newer car with 707 hp can almost keep up with an old pushrod powered car with 505 hp…[email protected](k1n9 believable!

  • R.I.P. Hellcat.
