2017 VLF Destino Takes The Fisker Karma To New Grounds In Detroit

A new and radical interpretation of the Fisker Karma has made its public debut in Detroit: the VLF Destino.

Henrik Fisker (yes, that Henrik Fisker) is the head of design and product strategy at VLF automotive and, besides being in charge with different parts of development, he also promised to sign each car.

The new VLF Destino is basically the same vehicle introduced a couple of years ago, only it received some minor updates, to give it a fresher look. Still, despite the revisions, it’s very easy to spot the Fisker Karma, on which it is based.

The performance four-door and four-seat GT has an aluminum body and space frame and it is 196.4in (4,988mm) long, 78.2in (1,986mm) wide and 52.4in (1,330mm) tall, weighing 4,300lb (1,950kg). Its creators mention the optional carbon fiber roof, large 22-inch wheels, wrapped in 265/30 and 305/30 tires, and the array of exterior colors and leather upholstery.

Unlike the Karma, which has a hybrid powertrain, the VFL Destino carries a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, straight from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, which promises to deliver an impressive 638hp (647PS) at 6,500 rpm and 604lb-ft (819Nm) of torque at 3,800rpm, via an automatic transmission, as the firm states. It allows the rebadged Karma to go from 0 to 60mph (96km/h) in just 3.9 seconds and  top out at 200mph (322km/h).

Performance, and especially exclusivity, do not come cheap as the VFL Destino has a starting price of $229,000, which is approximately twice the cost of the original Karma. Each vehicle will be manufactured at a factory in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
