The all-new Aston Martin DB11 is just around the corner and more info is getting out.
Thanks to the British automaler’s deal with Mercedes-AMG, it is shaping up to be worthy successor to the ageing DB9.
We already know that the DB11 will be powered by a brand new twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12 instead of the naturally aspirated 5.9-liter of the DB9. Now, it’s being reported by Autoblog that it could come standard with a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the DB9 sports a six-speed auto but, in 2014, Aston rolled out an eight-speed auto for the Vantage and Rapide. It therefore seems logical that the Rapide’s bigger brother, the DB11, will also receive this transmission.
Beyond that, the new twin-turbo V12 is widely tipped to be more powerful than the naturally-aspirated one in the Vantage that offers up 565 hp and 458 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a boost in power over the DB9 and a quicker-shifting gearbox, it goes without saying that the new model will be quicker than its predecessor.
The DB11’s dynamics will also be superior as its VH aluminum chassis promises to be significantly lighter and stronger than the DB9’s current platform.
Aston Martin is not only benefiting from Daimler’s expertise in engine building; the DB11 is expected to draw on the German conglomerate’s experience in creating class-leading interiors, too. Not that there was anything wrong with design or luxury, but the lack of modern features, such as a high-tech infotainment system, really showed the DB9’s age.
