As you may remember, the BMW M3 stunt cars featured in the new ‘Mission Impossible’ movie were at Tom Cruise’s mercy and had quite a hard time. Nevertheless, according to the producers, the cars were still working at the end of the shooting.

As if the chase footage wasn’t intense enough, the filmmakers absolutely trashed the M3s while filming the infamous stair scene multiple times. USA Today reports that even though the entire stairs were temporarily transformed in ramps, to make the scene survivable for the cars, and then added back in post-production, that segment took its toll on the cars.

Nevertheless, the Bimmers were though enough to survive the ordeal and impress director Christopher McQuarrie, as he stated:

“Much to BWMs credit, we couldn’t kill their cars, no matter how many times we did the gag. And we did it a lot. But, while the cars were still running, they weren’t exactly purring anymore. The BMW M3 is a fantastic car. They took an amazing amount of punishment.”
