It’s almost been a full year since Koenigsegg unveiled its most advanced model ever, the hybrid and transmission-less Regera.

Given its revolutionary powertrain, it’s not surprising that development and testing is still in its early stages.

While the start of production still remains a way off, Shmee150 recently had the opportunity to check out the Regera in person at the Swedish manufacturer’s headquarters in Angelholm.

Quite remarkably, Christian von Koenigsegg was more than happy to take the rear-wheel drive Regera out onto local streets and the company’s own runway despite a recent dusting of snow.

In some aspects, the Regera is like a conventional supercar, but in others it is unlike any other car on the market. It receives most of its power from a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter mid-mounted V8 engine, though its monstrous 1500 hp figure is achieved with the help of three electric motors.

That’s really standard in new-age hypercars. Instead of a dual-clutch transmission, though, the Regera features has an innovative direct drive system with just one gear working through a locking hydraulic coupling between the crankshaft and propshaft.
