The Fiat 500L that transported Pope Francis in his historical visit to the United States will go under the hammer.

With American politicians (and not only) traveling surrounded by armored SUVs and limousines, the 79-year old Pontiff chose a Fiat 500L to take him to the White House and Congress.

The black-finished Italian model, selected by the Pope in a desire to put aside some of the rich trappings associated with his office and to symbolize his concern for the environment, will be auctioned, on January 29, according to organizers of last year’s World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, quoted by AutoNews.

Proceeds will benefit the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the vehicle will then be displayed at the Philadelphia Auto Show.

Fiat’s small vehicle wasn’t the only one used by Francis during his visit to Washington, New York and Philadelphia, as he also had a white Jeep with open sides at his disposal, known as a Popemobile, that allowed people to see him.
